What is Elavil
Elavil, known generically as Amitriptyline, is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used to treat mental and mood disorders such as depression. It works by restoring the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain, particularly serotonin and norepinephrine, which influence mood, energy, and emotional stability.
In addition to treating depression, Elavil is sometimes prescribed for chronic pain management, migraine prevention, and certain types of anxiety disorders.
